Mandarin 1 Homework #10

 Today we learned the pronunciation and meanings of 11 new characters from Unit 5 (风wind, 云cloud, 雨rain, 雪snow, 电electricity, 天sky, 地earth/land, 春spring, 下summer, 秋autumn, 冬winter). Then, we practiced writing these characters and form words together. Please pay attention to the difference between the second stroke of "风" which is a horizontal slant hook, and the last stroke of "电"and "地" which is a vertical curved hook.


During the class, with the help of pictures, we discussed our favorite weather and seasons. Everyone shared their opinions. In the pinyin section, we reviewed all the pinyin we had learned before, and then learned the pronunciation and writing of initials “z”, “c”, and “s”. We also did pinyin reading exercises together.

After class, please complete the following exercises：
1.Listen to the recording and repeat the characters and words on page 25 and 26 from Unit 5 of the Chinese textbook.
2. Listen to the recording and repeat the content from the Unit 11 of Pinyin textbook.
3. Complete exercises from page 27 to 32 in Chinese workbook 1A.
4. Complete exercises from the Unit 11 of Pinyin workbook: Sections 一, 二, 三1, and 四.

We will continue with the study of Unit 5 next week.

  Hi parents and students, Today we continued with Lesson 6. In class, we practiced using the sentence patterns “我（不）会...” (I can/cannot...) and “我学会了...” (I have learned...) to answer the questions “你会做什么？” (What can you do?) and “你学会了什么？” (What have you learned?). At home, parents can use these two questions to ask your child and encourage them to practice more. The lesson text was a tongue twister with a storyline. By reading it aloud, we experienced the rhythm of Chinese and understood the importance of tones in pronunciation. Before practicing the tongue twister, we learned the pronunciation and meaning of 7 new Chinese characters: 毛, 抱, 猫, 破, 赶, 苗, and 捉. We also reviewed the radicals “扌” (related to hand actions) and “走” (related to movement) and introduced a new radical, “犭,” which is often used for words related to animals or their actions.
