Mandarin 1 Homework #11

 Today, we first reviewed the pronunciation, meanings, and writing of the 11 characters we learned in the last lesson (风、云、雨、雪、电、天、地、春、夏、秋、冬). Then, we learned to read six new characters (的 s / of, 说 say, 是 is, 色 colour, 花 flower, 妈mom). With the helping of pictures, we practiced answering questions like "What is your favorite season?" "What season is it now?" "What is in the sky?" in Chinese. Ask your children what their answers are. We also learned a new short poem called "The Colors of Spring." By studying this poem, we use colours to describe spring, helping the children feel the beautiful imagery of poetry.

In the pinyin section, we reviewed all the pinyin we had learned before and then learned the pronunciation and writing of initials zh, ch, sh, and r. We also did pronunciation exercises together. Please pay attention that zi, ci, si, zhi, chi, shi, ri are read as whole syllables and do not require separate pronunciation. For example, “zhi” is directly read as "zhi" and not "zh, i — zhi."

After class, please complete the following exercises

1. Listen to the recording and repeat all characters and words on Unit 5 of the Chinese textbook. Read and recite The Colour of Spring;

2. Listen to the recording and repeat the content from the Unit 12 of Pinyin textbook. Please do more practise on pronouncing the combining of initials and finals together.

3. Complete exercises from page 33to 38 in Chinese workbook 1A.

4. Complete exercises from the Unit 11 of Pinyin workbook: Sections 三, 四1 and 五.

We will start working on Chinese Unit 6 and Pinyin Unit 13 next week.

Have a great weekend!
