Mandarin 1 Homework #16
Good afternoon!
Today, we started by reciting all the Pinyin we have learned so far and then learned the pronunciation and writing of the compound vowels ie, üe, er, and the whole syllables “ye”, “ yue”. We also did phonetic reading exercises. I suggest when reviewing the writing of Chinese characters, students can also think about the Pinyin of the characters and how to pronounce them. Currently, we have completed the study of all initial consonants, and we will soon finish learning some final vowels. If a character contains a final vowel that we have not yet learned, students can think about its initial consonant first.
After completing this Pinyin exercise, we studied a nursery rhyme from unit 7. We learned the pronunciation and meanings of ten characters (学、生、我、是、爱、老、师、同、文、校). Then, we practiced writing these characters together and conducted word formation exercises. In this unit, students need to master the correct writing of the "斜钩slanting hook" (the fifth stroke of "我"). We also learned a sentence pattern “我是 + noun 。”( I am + noun.)
In previous units, we have already learned the pronunciation and meanings of "我" and "是." In this stage, students are required to master the writing of these two characters as well.
Starting from this unit, as the students has learned more characters, I encourage them to use learned characters more frequently for word formation exercises. It’s good for expanding their vocabulary and being prepared for future sentence learning. I also encourage students to practice reading every day, whether it's Pinyin or Chinese characters—make sure to read aloud. When reading Pinyin, please practice the four tones, such as for the compound vowel ie, in addition to the first tone iē, also need to practice the second tone ié, the third tone iě, and the fourth tone iè.
After class, please complete the following exercises:
1.Listen to the recording and repeat the text, words and phrases on page 39 to 46 from Unit 7 of the Chinese textbook.
2. Listen to the recording and repeat the content from the Unit 15 of Pinyin textbook.
3. Complete exercises from page 39 to 46 in Chinese workbook 1A.
4. Complete exercises from the Unit 15 of Pinyin workbook: Sections 一, 二, 三1, 四and五.
We will keep working on pinyin and Unit 7 next week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
